With just some staples and a bit of fabric, you can give it a fresh new look. Learn how to reupholster a chair in this video by Better Homes and Gardens:<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/czn4yWC1nXE\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>1. Remove old fabric<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Photograph your chair for reference before stripping original covering<\/li>\n<li>Start by removing the black cloth from the underside<\/li>\n<li>Loosen pieces attached to the frame<\/li>\n<li>Mark fabric pices with location and position to use as a template later<\/li>\n<li>Remove and save welting for later<\/li>\n<li>Disassemble chair as needed<\/li>\n<li>Remove fabric<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2. Replace batting<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Remove old batting if worn or stained<\/li>\n<li>Cut piece of 1\/2-inch batting for back and seat if needed<\/li>\n<li>Cover chair back first and staple<\/li>\n<li>Repeat process for seat, folding neatly around corner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3. Make new pattern<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rip seams to separate fabric into smaller pieces<\/li>\n<li>Lay original pieces, wrong side up, on back of new fabric<\/li>\n<li>Mark around pattern<\/li>\n<li>Leave extra fabric beyond original edges for seam allowances<\/li>\n<li>Repeat for each section and cut out<\/li>\n<li>Transfer location markings onto new fabric pieces<\/li>\n<li>Place sections together inside out and sew together<\/li>\n<li>Sew pieces together adjusting for curves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4. Make welting<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Determine length of welting using old pieces as a guide<\/li>\n<li>Cut enough 2-inch-wide strips to equal that length, allowing a few extra inches<\/li>\n<li>Join strips with diagonal seams<\/li>\n<li>Fold bias strip around cord<\/li>\n<li>Use zipper foot to sew in place<\/li>\n<li>Welting will go around the bottom of the seat apron<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>5. Apply new covers<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reapply new cover to seat base<\/li>\n<li>Pull fabric tight<\/li>\n<li>Staple to frame where previously attached, starting at front edge<\/li>\n<li>Work around frame on each side toward back<\/li>\n<li>Tuck excess fabric under at corners<\/li>\n<li>Reapply new cover to chair back<\/li>\n<li>Pull fabric tight and staple to frame where previously attached<\/li>\n<li>Turn under raw edges where visible<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>6. Reassemble chair<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reattach the back and seat<\/li>\n<li>Trim any excess string or fabric<\/li>\n<li>Make sure new fabric does not cover any hardware holes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>7. Add welting<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fold under end of piping for a finished edge<\/li>\n<li>Start at a back leg<\/li>\n<li>Staple welting strip around underside of chair<\/li>\n<li>Continue stapling welting around perimeter of chair<\/li>\n<li>At corners, snip fabric on each side of leg<\/li>\n<li>Tuck excess fabric under with flathead screwdriver<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>8. Finish underside<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use old piece as a guide to cut new black fabric piece<\/li>\n<li>Add black fabric to underside, tight against welting<\/li>\n<li>Start stapling inside of front edge<\/li>\n<li>Fold over and staple black fabric to underside<\/li>\n<li>Make sure black fabric is covering up all raw edges of upholstery fabric<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Is your favorite chair looking its age?
