Window Treatment Options for Privacy Protection
Is privacy protection your biggest concern about choosing the right window treatments? Most custom blinds, shades, shutters and drapes offer adequate privacy when closed, but there are many options that enhance privacy. Learn more in this video by The Home Depot:
Many wood and faux wood blinds offer a no-holes or routeless option or cloth tapes that cover the route holes. This option preserves privacy and adds a touch of color to your window coverings.
The slats on blinds can often be tilted at an angle that will provide privacy while still letting light into the room.
Draperies offer a great way to increase privacy. As side panels, they add a luxurious style and cover light gaps. Full coverage panels add another full layer to increase privacy.
The popular top-down bottom-up operating system available on many shades allows you to maintain privacy below while letting light in from above. This means you still get to enjoy your view while keeping other people from seeing inside your home.
Liners are available with some shades and drapes to increase privacy or help to darken the room.
Here are some additional considerations if privacy is a priority:
- Solar shades do not provide privacy. To solve this, consider adding a layer of draperies that can be closed at night.
- Most woven wood shade materials do not offer privacy, but if you love the look, just add a liner.
- Avoid sheer draperies as the sole window covering when privacy at night is desired.
It is recommended that you order free samples of the materials you intend to purchase. This way, you can make sure that you’ll be happy with the privacy that the product will provide.
