Window Treatment Options for Child Safety

Child safety may be a top priority for families when considering window treatment options. This video by The Home Depot presents several tips to help you make your home safer for kids:

Window treatment cords can be a safety hazard and must always be kept out of reach of young children. Cordless/motorized options are available for honeycomb, roller and solar shades. Other alternatives include shutters and wand-controlled vertical blinds and draperies.

If you have older window treatments that you’re not replacing, secure the cords out of reach with cord cleats. For loop-controlled shades, make sure the tension device is secured to the wall.

It’s also important to arrange furniture for safety. Move all cribs, beds, furniture and toys away from walls with windows or cords as children can use them as step stools to reach window cords.
