Paint your ceiling first and let it dry for 24 hours. Start by applying a long strip of painters tape to the ceiling surface as close to the top of the wall as possible. Slowly pat the tape down as it sticks to the ceiling to avoid any bubbles or wrinkles.
Continue taping trim around windows, doors and baseboards using long strips about the size of your arm. Only tape the areas you’ll be painting today. You don’t want to leave the painters tape on too long before you paint. It’s a good idea to protect your door knobs, fixtures, outlets and light switches as these areas tend to collect unwanted paint while you’re working.
When painting alongside any taped area, try to limit the amount of paint you get on the tape. It’s there for a little protection, but we want to avoid getting too much paint on the tape.
Remove tape when the paint is dry to the touch, about an hour after the application. If you notice that the paint is pulling up with the tape, use a razor blade to score the edge and break the seal.
