Updated Small Urban Home
This updated small urban home had a strange layout with a kitchen that bisected the whole footprint of the main floor, breaking the space up and making it feel much smaller than it actually was. The goal of the renovation was to transform the main floor into an open-concept space. Since the entryway did not have a closet, modern hooks were installed on the wall opposite a new custom cabinet that delineates the the front door from the living space, provides surface space for keys and sunglasses, houses shoes and other items, and serves as a side table for the custom sectional. In the living room, two bunching tables serve as a coffee table, and a small cabinet serves as a second end table. Large windows and sliding doors maximize lighting. The kitchen has a deep blue island with a quartzite countertop, white backsplash tile, upper wood and white lower cabinetry, satin brass hardware, and pantry cabinet with a dog bed nook. Opposite the island, a stair wall houses a frame TV. Upstairs, the slope roof was straightened to expand the main bathroom, which has a skylight, large shower with dark forest green tile in a herringbone pattern, wood vanity, satin brass fixtures, arched mirror and pendant lights. The second floor landing area was transformed into an office; a barn door was installed for privacy. Take the tour in this House & Home video:
