Update Your Outdoor Look For Halloween
Why not give your scarecrow a rest this year and update your Halloween look with witchy broomsticks and a family of ghosts? Learn how to create these decorations in this HGTV video:
Brighten the path for your trick-or-treaters with Halloween broom lights. You will need plain brooms with straw tops, spray paint, cordless drill, augur, and Halloween light strings for this project.
1. Use a heavy duty craft knife to cut the plastic stitching on both sides of the broom.
2. Spray paint the plastic handle brown, using a paint specifically designed for plastic. Spray paint the broom straw orange or purple.
3. Wrap the broom handle with the light string.
4. Use an augur connected to a cordless drill and drill a 6-8 inch hole in the ground. Insert the broom stick and pack the hole with dirt.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 for each broom.
6. Attach the light strings to extension cords, plug them in, and you’re done.
Another fun idea for your yard is a family of ghosts. For this project, you will need white grocery bags or small white trash bags, newspaper, PVC pipe cut in various lengths (can be pre-cut at the hardware store), yarn or thread, white sheets, wooden mallet, metal rebars and paint or accessories such as wigs or hats.
1. Make a double bag and stuff it with crumpled newspaper.
2. Put the PVC pipe into the bag. Take yarn or thread and tie it off. Put a white sheet over the top and use yarn or thread to tie the sheet in place.
3. Repear steps 1 and 2 for each ghost.
3. Take a wooden mallet and hammer the metal rebars into the ground. Space them out to make a circle. Slide the ghosts over the rebars.
4. Add finishing touches to your ghosts such as wigs, hats, and “makeup” paint.
5. Take the corners of the sheets and tie them together so it look like your ghosts are holding hands.
