Update Your Backyard With an Outdoor Fire Pit

Like to entertain outdoors? Keep the party hopping with an outdoor fire pit. Learn how to update your backyard with this simple, fast and inexpensive DIY project in this Lowe’s video:

Before you start, check with local ordinances or homeowners’ association guidelines to see if fire pits are permitted.

Here’s how to set up your fire pit area:

Base: Pick a flat spot away from trees and dig a good distance from your home. Dig up the sod and seed gravel and sand.

Fire Pit: You can build from the ground up or buy a ready-made sturdy 36″ steel fire bowl with a grated cover and set it in the middle of the base.

Seating: Add benches or woven chairs.

Plants: Set planters around the perimeter of the base with annuals and perennials. Small trees and shrubs can create a pleasant visual border that also defines the space.

Lights: Augment your fire pit lighting with torches and lanterns.
