Transform a Door Into a Wall Organizer

Paneled door
Tape measure
Screwdriver
Drill
Coat hooks with screws
Eyehook
Corkboard
Razor blade
Liquid Nails adhesive
Caulking gun
Dry erase paint
Chalkboard paint
Painting supplies
Stud finder
D-ring hangers and screws
String
Level

1. Drill and Paint: Attach the coat hooks using the tape measure to align each hook underneath the panel. Mark the position of the holes and pre-drill them. If you are going to paint the door, do that first before attaching the coat hooks. After applying several coats of paint and allowing it to dry, use a screwdriver to attach each hook to the door.

2. Attach the Corkboard: Measure the perimeter of the panel and cut the corkboard to size. Apply the adhesive to the back of the board and set it into place.

3. Paint the Panels: Fill the remaining panels with dry erase paint and/or chalkboard paint. Allow time to dry. If you want to attach a dry erase pen to the door, pre-drill a small hole next to the dry erase panel and attach a metal eyehook you can tie the string to.

4. Hang the Door: Locate the studs in wall using the stud finder. Mark two studs far enough apart to distribute the weight of the door evenly. Place one long screw deep within the stud using the drill. Using the string and the level, place the second screw in the wall. Measure exactly where you want the door to hang. Based on the studs and the protruding screws, attach two D-ring hangers on the back of the door. Keep them high where the wood is solid. You can pre-drill, but don’t punch through the other side of the door. With two D-rings in place and another person’s assistance, lift the door and slide the D-rings over the screws in the wall.

Now, hang some jackets on the hooks and jot some reminders on the dry erase board, and admire your handiwork!
