Toronto Home’s Modern Makeover
Designer Joel Bray conducts a walk-through of a Toronto home’s modern makeover. The classic black-and-white bistro kitchen has open shelving, a large island and ceiling-height IKEA cabinetry; a new window was added above the sliding glass doors to bring in extra natural light. IKEA kitchen units were framed into the wall structure behind the living room fireplace and clad with faux Nero large scale tile with a matte finish, creating cleverly hidden storage as well as an attractive focal point. A green vinyl custom banquette adds storage and additional seating to the existing dining table. The moody powder room has patterned wallpaper, a narrow sink and a smaller scale toilet. A glass staircase framed in black railing leads to the upstairs master and guest bedrooms; the landing has a back accent wall and skylight and is furnished with a desk, sofa and coffee bar. In the bathroom, the small pre-fab shower was replaced with a larger glass shower. Take the tour in this House & Home video:
