Three Upcycled Container Ideas for Gardening

There are a lot of creative ways to grow things, and one of those ways is to re-use something that you might otherwise discard as a container for growing vegetables, herbs or flowers. Get three upcycled container ideas for gardening in this P. Allen Smith video:

All three of these containers work well for small space gardening.

Wheelbarrow: Put holes in the bottom for drainage, add potting soil and plant spring salad greens like buttercrunch, red sails, and red oak leaf lettuce as well as kale, arugula, and flat leaf Italian parsley
spinach. Once harvested, you can then plant tomatoes and peppers.

Small Round Grill: Convert an old grill into a micro-planter. It already has holes on the bottom that can serve as drainage. Add about 3 inches of gravel, then add potting soil, and plant vegetables and herbs like broccoli, thyme, and basil.

Tree Stump: Hollowed out tree stumps occur naturally. Turn one into a container by attaching a piece of plywood at the bottom to hold potting soil. Follow the “thriller, filler and spiller” formula and and add plants like grasses, goldenrod and verbena.
