Strategies for Injecting Bold Color into Your Home
Many homeowners are afraid of color and want to keep everything neutral. They think a bold color will make the room too small and dark, or that they will tire of the color. Designer Kim Smart presents several strategies for getting out of the neutral rut and injecting bold color into your home in this Smart Interiors video:
There is a simple way to introduce a bold color with minimal commitment and maximum impact. Great spaces to inject color are powder rooms, dining rooms and foyers because you don’t spend a lot of time in them, so you will be less likely to tire of a bold color.
Powder rooms are great for introducing color as they are small spaces that require less of a commitment and and less time and money. Using a dramatic color like a jewel tone in a powder room will give your guests an unexpected surprise.
A dining room is another place to experiment wiht color. Choose an accent color from the rug, upholstery or an adjoining room and use it on the walls. If you have a tray ceiling, use it there too. Friends and family will be drawn back time and again.
Foyers set the tone for the home, and it’s an important first impression. Create a welcoming atmosphere with a lively burst of color. Repeat the color throughout your home in rugs, pillows and accessories.
