Small Family Room Transformation

Small spaces always present a challenge. This long narrow family room had a centrally located fireplace set, and the mish-mash of tired worn furniture was begging for a makeover. See the transformation in this House & Home video:

The design goal was to create a lovely liveable space for a young family. As such, the space was divided into three zones with new furniture:

  • TV/gaming area with sofa, ottoman, and media unit
  • Reading area with plush chair and bookshelves in front of the fireplace
  • Cocktail area with table and four chairs

A bedroom dresser provides extra hidden storage and entertaining and completes the look.

This space works because the bigger pieces are neutral so the space doesn’t feel busy, and in every zone there is one piece that really grounds that area.
