Six Ways to Add Color to Your Home
Designing and decorating a house is all about personal choice. You want to create a space that makes you feel good and works for you and your family. Learn about six ways to add color to your home in this HGTV video:
1. Decide between neutral or bright: When it comes to color choices and decor, people often fall into two camps – neutral and calming, or bright and vivacious.
2. For a modern look, paint walls gray. Today, gray is considered the new beige. It’s a more modern take on being neutral. With a gray base, it’s easy to add pops of color seasonally. For example, in the summer, yellows and greens can add a fresh, clean look, and for those cozy winter nights, purples, silvers and blacks are great.
3. Update older homes with bright colors: Go bright with lots of personality through color. You can bring in color in the furniture and decor.
4. Mix patterns and textures: To make the most of a contemporary design space, mix up your colors, patterns and textiles for a rich layered look.
5. Add sparkle with metals: Mirrors, lighting and metals adds a little sparkle. One rule of thumb about metals that will give your home a unified look is to keep your fixtures, door handles and accessories consistent in each space. For example, if you have a brushed nickel faucet in your bathroom, consider having the same finish on your light fixture.
6. Repeat colors from room to room: Repeating colors and textures will give your home a unified, cohesive look.
