Six Tips for Buying Vintage Decor

Vintage items can make a brand-new house feel homey, welcoming and different. Designer/contractor Jasmine Roth shares six tips for buying vintage decor in this HGTV video:

1. Just go – literally! Go shopping and look around. If there’s something you like or you think is cool, that’s what you should buy.

2. Have one piece of vintage per room. This can be artwork or any object you hang on a wall.

3. You definitely do NOT want to buy a vintage mattress, couch, pillows or comforters.

4. Depending on what you’re looking for, it can be helpful to go shopping with some rough dimensions, especially since vintage items can’t be returned.

5. Style shelves with vintage for an unexpected look. Mix in vintage items with books, photos and plants.

6. Think of old street signs as art.

Vintage items can be re-purposed into unique decor. Vintage doors can be upcycled into pantry doors. In the DIY projects featured in this video, a vintage locker was converted into a coffee table, and vintage ladders turned onto their sides were used to create a living wall.
