Replacement Windows – Choosing Full Frame vs. Insert
Thinking about replacing your windows but are uncertain whether to go with full frame or insert? Learn more about the decision process in this Renewal By Andersen video:
If the window has sill rot or rot on part of the frame, that does not necessarily require a full frame replacement. You should have a professional come in to inspect your window first before making that determination. If the rot affects side jambs or has caused extensive damage around the window, a full frame replacement will be required.
Keep in mind that you will need a custom replacement as it’s not new construction. Your home has settled and the opening is no longer square and plumb, so you will want an expert to take measurements. Your full frame replacement will include a new exterior sill, new brick mold on the outside and new trim on the inside.
The good news is that in most cases, insert replacement will be the right choice. Insert replacement not only saves you money but also eliminates the need for repair and cleanup because no demolition is needed inside or outside.
