Powder Room Design Ideas

Thanks to its pint-sized proportions, a powder room makeover is a great way to add panache to your home’s public spaces. This HGTV video presents some inspired design ideas for creating a powder room that never goes out of style:

Italian is the most classic of all classic decor. Use tumbled limestone or other stone work to evoke the feel of ancient art and architecture. Alternatively, use a rich color as a base paint, such as dark red, gold, burnt orange or pale blue, and then accessorizie with brushed and carved metals, romantic candles and some unique antiques.

Stone can make any room become a temple of taste. Add a marble top to your powder room vanity, or go all out and use marble for all surfaces, such as subway tiles on the walls, a basketweave on the floor set off by a border, and even window casings.

Traditional is timeless. Start with a furniture style vanity. Small antiques or salvaged tables make excellent conversion and conversation pieces. The traditional style is an ideal showcase for antique or salvaged architectoral gems that might not work in a larger room, such as a single window or light fixture.

You can’t go wrong with the sleek style of high tech minimalism in your powder room. The neutral reflective surface of stainless steel cozies up well to more tactile surfaces, even leather. Use a dramatic design element like leather wall tiles since it doesn’t get excessive moisture from showers or bathtubs.

The artisan chic style lets your inner artist come to light. Play with colors, patterns and textures to create an artistic statement with your powder room. This style incorporates art glass, mosaic tile, accent lighting and black accents. You can add stylish countertop underlighting or even recessed lighting in tiles.
