Many people associate bulb planting with the fall in anticipation of spring daffodils and tulips. If you broaden the definition of “bulb”, however, there are many possibilities for your garden. Learn about bulbs you can plant in the spring for beautiful summer blooms in this video by P. Allen Smith:

Gladiolus: Easy to grow and produce long-lasting blooms. Plant the “bulbs” (corms) over the course of the summer every two weeks so you will have a contiuous crop to cut.

Cannas: Perfect for containers with their bold foliage and wide range of bloom colors. Cannas grow from underground stems called rhizomes. Select rhizomes that are crisp and firm and have a prominent bright eye.

Dahlias: Produce lots of showy blooms throughout the summer right up until cold weather. They come in a wide range of colors and shapes and grow from tubers.
