Picnic Table Hack for Elevated Dining

A picnic table is a backyard classic – simple, utilitarian – that everyone loves. If you want to kick it up a notch, you can transform it into a dining experience that will make every meal feel like you’re eating out at a fancy restaurant. This DIY project adds the following features:

  • Custom trellis: Attach brackets built from 2×4’s to the left and right ends of the table. Add another long 2×4 to the top ends of the brackets. Add the trellis at the top.
  • Built-in tiered serving area: Cut a board from a 2×10. Attach galvanized pipe fittings to the board, then add two more flanges. Center it on the table and attach with wood screws.

Once assembly is complete, sand down the wood and apply one coat of exterior stain.

Add faux fur throws, tealights, lanterns and greenery for the finishing touches.
