Pergola Design Ideas

This Landscaping Network video features a pergola or patio cover constructed from steel and redwood:

Steel has an extended lifespan and provides a structural rigidity without angle connections, while redwood provides warmth that would not be achieved with a pure steel structure.

The pergola was sized to provide an outdoor dining environment for the main patio, with post placement determined by the location of the water feature and other elements. It was manufactured offsite with a steel fabricator and put together on site with bolts and connectors. The redwood was cut to fit within angle iron pieces already welded onto the steel plating. A custom-mized paint composed of black, gray and hunter green hardware paint was applied to provide the finishing touches.
