Over-the-Top Kitchen Renovations That May Devalue Your Home
A $30,000 kitchen renovation may be appealing if you love gourmet cooking, but an expensive kitchen remodel may be a detriment when it comes time to sell your home. While a kitchen island and restaurant-sized stainless-steel appliances like refrigerators and stoves may be “must-haves” for you, potential buyers who don’t care much about cooking and spend little time in the kitchen won’t want to pay for them. They will be more likely to pass on your home and buy one with a no-frills kitchen.
This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do anything to upgrade your kitchen. There are several affordable ways to improve the look and convenience of your kitchen. Here are some project ideas:
- Install retractable trash bins and pull-out shelves in your cabinets.
- Paint your cabinets. Your may want to consider applying a bright accent color.
- Decorate your backsplash with ceramic tile.
- Install laminate or vinyl flooring.
- Upgrade to quartz or granite countertops.
