Watch how a cluttered spare room is transformed into a combined play/crafts/office/study space in this HGTV video:

The homeowners wanted to organize the clutter in their spare room and create a useful space the whole family could use and enjoy. With a budget of $3,000, economical design ideas and some easy construction, a multipurpose family room was created that everyone could enjoy:

  • On one wall is a work and study zone for the kids to use as they get older with a desk space, drawers, lockers and a display board for organization.
  • The window space is occupied by a customized table for crafts with a mini-table below for the kids.
  • Another wall is lined with sleek leaning shelves stained a rich dark brown, providing a mini-home office area with lots of display space.
  • An easel for the kids’ art projects was set up with a shower curtain covered drip board for spills.
  • Colorful striped fabrics tie the different functional areas together into one complete room.
