Modern Container Home in New Zealand
This modern container home in New Zealand has beautiful views of Lake Taupo and was built from three 3×20 ft containers connected in parallel. Take the tour in this Living Big in a Tiny Home video:
This on-the-grid home is raised on piles, which makes the most of the view and creates space underneath for a carport and storage. A separate sleepout provides space for guests. One container contains the kitchen and half of the living room, the second contains the other half of the living room and the bathroom, and the third contains the bedrooms. Insulation and a heat pump keeps the home cozy in cold weather.
The living room has a sectional and flows out to a covered deck with an entertaining area, and the kitchen has a full-sized fridge, microwave, plenty of overhead storage, a combination dish drawer/compact oven/range hood, brushed aluminum backsplash, a composite stone countertop and breakfast bar, along with a sliding window for passing food out to the deck. A storage closet houses a combination washer/dryer.
The large bathroom has a glass shower, vanity, flush toilet and mirror cabinet. Fiber cement sheets provide waterproofing and give a tile look and feel to the space. In the master bedroom is a large wardrobe with mirrored doors as well as under-bed storage. The home office has a desk that converts to a double bed for guests.
