Modern Art Headboard

A headboard above a bed can totally transform a space. If you’re looking for a stylish way to add personality to your kid’s bedroom, then this DIY modern art headboard is the perfect project for you. Learn how to make it in this DIY Network video:

1. You will need the following wood pieces:

  • 15 pieces of 1x2x8 boards
  • One full sheet of 3/4-inch plywood, cut as appropriate for your size bed. This will be the back of the headboard and where you’ll lay out your design.

2. Lay out the 1x2s in three different design patterns. Trace where you’ll cut with a miter saw on each the boards; use a protractor where needed. Use one board as a guide and a scrap piece as a spacer.

3. Cut four pieces of 1x8s to size to make a frame for the headboard.

4. Paint all of the wood pieces in your chosen colors. Let dry.

5. Using wood glue, 1-1/2 inch brad nails and a nailer, assemble the headboard.

6. Assemble the frame and attach it to the board using 2-inch wood screws and wood glue.

7. Attach a French cleat to the back of the board for hanging the headboard directly onto the wall.
