Mediterranean-Style Landscape Design
This older property with mature trees and large lawn areas had a pool area makeover and an olive garden addition. The challenge was to bring the old and the new together and create a contemporary look in a classical Mediterranean way. Several types of paving in shades of tan were used in this design. Travertines were installed in the pool area. Decomposed granite and gravel in the olive garden provide both a soft look and a permeable surface.
The existing pool and backyard patio were resurfaced with travertine paving and connected with long steps. Low stacked stone walls with contemporary travertine caps define the separate areas and also mitigate their differences. A lion’s head medallion serves as a focal point.
Bold stripes of lawn and paving make the gradual transition between the new patio and the existing lawns. The stripes vary in width and are mirrored on the other side of the pool.
The homeowners are empty nesters that like to entertain extended family and host benefit parties. This outdoor space can hold up to 400 people.
