Man Cave Design Ideas

The phrase “man cave” conjures up a smoking room inspired space with dark walls, leather furniture and sports memorabilia, but it doesn’t have to be just for men. Think of it as a space for relaxation and doing the things you’re interested in regardless of your gender. This video by BuildDirect present several design ideas for man (and woman) caves:

Basement (The Man Cave Classic): There are a lot of things you can do with your unused basement space; for example, you can turn it into an entertainment room, gaming room, or bar. Finishing a basement is not as expensive as you may think. Because of potential moisture problems, go with laminate or engineered hardwood floors, not solid hardwood. They are great alternatives that give you the look of real wood at a fraction of the price. An area rug will help you tie the room together as well as keep your feet warm. Wall paneling can give your room style and character.

Garage (The Industrial Look): If you’re not using your garage for your car or for storage, think of turning it into an industrial hangout space. You’ll most likely be working with a concrete floor; warm it up with an area rug or porcelain tile with a wood look. Besides adding a chair, TV and rug, lean into the industrial look and re-purpose something in a stylish way. A tool chest can be used as industrial-style kitchen counter space, island or wet bar.

Shed (The Backyard Cave): Instead of using it as a space to store deck chairs, tools and lawn mowers, a shed can be transformed into a great man or woman cave. Think of it as a detached but very real part of your home. Lay down some carpet, put in a space heater, run some power, and you’ll be comfortable and cozy in no time. You can use the same design ideas as for basements and garages.
