Kitchen Makeover on a Small Budget

This family of four upgraded their cramped, outdated, generic kitchen to a spacious updated kitchen. See the before-and-after of this small budget kitchen makeover in this HGTV video:

The homeowners expanded the kitchen by moving the cabinets over and adding a pass-through into the living room with a counter and cabinet. The lower cabinet that was perpendicular to the wall was moved against the wall. The base and doors of the cabinets were painted and a birch veneer put on top. The 25-year-old linoleum was replaced with a wood laminate that was also extended into the dining room. Square molding added character. This project had a planned budget of $3000 with an estimated time of three to eight days to complete.

This kitchen makeover actually took over 10 days but remained within budget. The work was double than was expected. Also, the homeowners didn’t anticipate the two colors of birch veneer on cabinets, but they found they liked the variety and the look, and they were very pleased with the outcome of their remodel.
