Kitchen-Centric Great Room

Interior designers Patricia McDonald and Marcia Moore discuss the features of their kitchen-centric great room in this Kohler video:

The kitchen has become one of the most important entertaining rooms in the home. This multi-functional great room design combines the kitchen and family room into one open entertainment center, allowing the family to study, play, cook, and eat together.

The work areas for baking and cooking are situated so that the family can be around without getting in the way.

The primary large kitchen island is located near the refrigerator, sinks and cooktops and serves as a workspace and eating area. A potfiller provides added convenience, allowing one person to fill a pot with water for cooking while another person washes dishes at another sink without interruption.

A second kitchen island has a trough sink which can be used for prepping, but it can also be filled with ice for storing beverages, allowing this island to serve as a party area.
