How to Use Color Blocking to Organize a Garage

Color block organization is a perfect way to keep things structured and organized, and it’s a great DIY project for leftover paint. Learn how to use color blocking to organize a garage in this Ace Hardware video:

Clear your wall space and use a good quality painters tape because you’ll want the cleanest lines. Use exterior paint in a garage because you’ll still have some of those outdoor elements creeping in. When painting, make sure the area is well ventilated.

Start by determining the major categories or groupings of items you’re storing in your garage, then find complementary colors for those groupings. Adding color will help you save time in both retrieving and putting away everything.

Mark off the area with painters tape before applying paint. Remove the tape before the paint dries for the straightest lines.

If you want to go all out on organization, you can create a numbering system and use color coding stickers. Place one on the wall and one on the item; whoever uses it will know exactly where it goes.
