How to Turn a False Drawer Front into a Tip-Out Drawer
One way to add more space and improve organization in your kitchen is to turn a false drawer front into a tip-out drawer where you can store small utensils and other items. Learn how in this Lowe’s video:
The easiest way to make this conversion is by using a Rev-A-Shelf Sink Front Tray kit which has everything you need. You will first need to determine whether the false drawer in your kitchen is the right type. It should have an existing drawer hole behind the false front and sufficient clearance between the drawer face and sink basin for the hinges and drawer basket.
1. Trace the hole on the back of the drawer face to determine where you’ll need clearance for the hinges and drawer basket.
2. Loosen the screws on the drawer face or tap it out gently with a hammer if attached with clips or staples.
3. Attach the hinges to the cabinet with screws and mark the positions of the holes on the drawer front. Then attach the hinges to the drawer front.
4. Attach the screws for the basket, but not too tightly so that you can easily remove the basket for cleaning. If you will use the basket for storing sponges, you can drill small holes in it to allow airflow.
5. Attach the assembled piece to the cabinet and add the handle to the front of the drawer.
