How to Transform a Closet into a Functional and Stylish Home Office

Using a closet as a home office helps you get a lot done because you’re facing inward and away from distractions; however, this particular space just doesn’t work. See how to transform a closet into a functional and stylish home office in this HGTV video:

This closet already had a desk surface with a 20-inch depth and a gap between the wall and the desk that allows the computer cord to drop down to the power strip.

The first step was to remove everything in the closet and decide what stays and what goes and whether any additional storage pieces are needed to keep things organized and tidy.

Priming the walls and repainting the back wall with a raspberry color invigorates the work space and creates the perfect contrast for the shelves.

A peg board zone on the left creates vertical storage and gets stuff up off the desk, maximizing the tiny 3-inch area. The peg board has all sorts of hooks and baskets that come pre-sized to fit and can hold an amazing array of stuff.

As the closet did not have an outlet in it, a long surge protector strip was run from the nearest outlet.

The space-killing lamp was replaced with an LED light that throws plenty of light into the work zone and doesn’t use much energy.

Three shelves, the desk surface and a chair were wrapped in decorative paper.

A printer, fabric-covered storage boxes, wood magazine file boxes and a file cabinet complete this closet makeover.
