How to Step Up Your Bookshelf Game
Do your bookshelves need a makeover? Learn how to step up yourbookshelf game and create a balanced and beautiful look in this video by The Design Network:
Start by clearing your shelves completely. Get rid of preconceived notions of what a bookshelf should look like and open your brain up to what your bookshelves could be.
It can feel overwhelming when you think of your bookshelves as a collection of many objects, but if you group them toether before you put them on the bookshelves, it won’t feel overwhelming. Feel free to play with the items; combine them and see what works and what doesn’t work. Don’t be afraid to combine dissimilar items as contrast will bring a lot of life to your arrangements.
On upper shelves, use elements that have more of a horizontal effect, like a stack of books, as opposed to a vertical effect like a tall vase.
If you split the center on a shelf, bring a central object to the next shelf. If you have two similar objects, split center them. Balance different shapes, like a bunch of dried flowers with geometric objects on a tray.
You can soften a bookshelf with pillows. If you have a lot of people over, they can grab the pillows off the shelf, use them and put them back.
Create a broken pattern by replacing one object in a series with a different object as a focal point.
