How to Set Up a Reading Nook

If you have an empty corner in your home, you have a spot where you can create a cozy reading nook. All you need are a few key items, and you’ll be relaxing in no time at all. Learn how to set up a reading nook in this HGTV video:

It’s easy to turn an unused corner into a special place where you can relax and unwind. Here’s how:

• Start by visually delineating the space from the rest of the room with a rug. A beautifully patterned flatweave area rug is thin and durable.
• Next up is the most important part of the reading nook – a comfy chair. If you have neutral walls, you can go with a chair with a bright fabric and/or large pattern.
• To keep everything in check, use a color-coordinated ottoman.
• Comfort is key as you want to be able to sit and just chill out. Add an occasional table for task lighting. A modern lamp with an Edison bulb gives off great light for reading.
• You also want to have reading material close at hand but not cluttered. A contemporary-style bookshelf adds a sculptural dimension to the corner.
• Add a few final touches like a painting and a basket with a throw – and you’re done!
