How to Replace Bifold Closet Doors with Sliding Industrial Doors
Give any room a more sophisticated look with a simple closet door update. Learn how to replace bifold closet doors with sliding industrial doors in this DIY Network video:
For this DIY project, you will need a speed square, hacksaw, drill with appropriate bits, screws, a marker and measuring tape.
Make sure your dimensions are correct because the last thing you want is for your doors not to fit. Measure your opening’s width from the finished wall or door casing from left to right. Then measure from the underside of the header all the way down to the floor. Verify that these dimensions match those of the new doors.
To remove each bifold door, pull the top pin down to release it from the top track, then swing the bifold door out and lift the door off the bottom track. Using a drill or screwdriver, remove any old track and hardware from the walls and floor. To avoid damage, use a utility knife to score along the tracks before prying away.
Measure or mark the width and cut the bottom track to size (most tracks come a bit long to allow for measuring mishaps and irregular openings). Then drill pilot holes and install it using the hardware provided. Repeat this process to install the top track. Be sure to read your instructions because every door is different.
Install the back panel first. Tip the door slightly and insert into the top track, then set the rollers onto the bottom track.
