If you’ve been thinking about replacing your old shower head with a new one or adding a hand shower, you will be glad to know that it is a relatively simple process. Learn more in this Delta video presented by Lowe’s:

For this DIY project you will need:

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Thread seal tape
  • Drill and 1/4″ bit
  • Rubber mallet
  • Screwdriver
  • Screws and anchors
  • Leveling tool

You don’t need to shut off the water supply to replace the shower head. Just remove the old shower head by turning it counterclockwise. You can use an adjustable wrench if necessary. Make sure the shower arm doesn’t turn inside the wall. Clean off any existing thread seal tape or sealing compound from the threads. Wrap some thread seal tape around the threads of the shower arm. Install the new shower head by screwing it on clockwise until it’s tight.

A hand shower is a great way to add style and versatility to your bathroom. Hand showers come in several different types of mounts: on a sliding wall bar, directly to the shower arm, or to the wall itself. Select a spot for installation, taking into consideration who will be using the hand shower and what will be the most convenient height.

1. Remove the bracket cover from the wall mount and mark the location for the screw holes. Drill 1/4″ holes into the tile and insert an anchor. Gently tap it with the rubber mallet until it’s flush with the surface.

2. Attach the wall bracket with screws and slide the bracket cover over it.

3. Remove the shower head from the shower arm and wrap some new thread seal tape around the threads. Screw on a shower arm diverter onto the end of the shower arm.

4. With the gasket inserted, screw the hose connection onto the right angle connection of the shower arm diverter until it’s snug. Reinstall the shower head onto the bottom end of the diverter.
