How to Replace a Bathroom Faucet

Today’s bathroom faucets are more stylish and perform better than fixtures in the past. Learn how to replace a bathroom faucet in this Lowe’s video:

Choose a faucet that matches the style of your bathroom. Faucets labeled “WaterSense” can save up to 30% or more water without sacrificing performance.

You will need the following tools:

  • Adjustable wrenches
  • Adjustable pliers or basin wrench
  • Bucket
  • Plumber’s putty
  • Towel or sponge
  • Safety glasses

As all faucets are different, be sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions and follow all building codes.

Remove the old faucet:
1. Turn off the water supply using the valves under the sink or the main water valve.
2. Turn on the faucet to release any excess water pressure. Have a bucket ready to catch water in the lines.
3. Disconnect the water supply lines.
4. Use a basin wrench to remove the nuts holding the faucet in place, then remove the faucet.

Install the new faucet:
1. On the new faucet, apply plumber’s putty into the putty groove on the underside of the putty plate.
2. Most sinks have precut holes for a universal fitting faucet. Place the putty plate and deck plate onto the pre-cut sink holes.
3. Insert the faucet into the hole.
4. From underneath the sink, secure the faucet with the mounting hardware supplied by the manufacturer.
5. Install the stopper, lift rod and lever according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
6. Wipe away any excess plumber’s putty with a wet sponge.
7. Reconnect the water supply lines. Some connections may require plumber’s tape.
8. Turn on the water and test for leaks.
