How to Refurnish an Old Chair for Under $20
Updating an old chair is an easy affordable DIY project. Learn how to refurnish an old chair for under $20 in this video by Build.com:
Start by visiting a local thrift shop and purchasing an old chair with some visual interest. Buy new fabric for around $10 and spray paint and sandpaper for about $5.
Remove the cushion by turning the chair over and removing the screws.
Clean the chair and sand it just enough to rough up the finish, and then spray paint it.
Cover the cushion with the new fabric. To make things easy, leave the old fabric on and cover it with the new. Lay the cushion down on the fabric and cut a generous amount around it. Staple the fabric to the bottom and make sure you pull it nice and tight because it will stretch over time.
Reattach the cushion to the chair, and that’s it. If you want a rustic look, you can rough up the finish after the paint has dried.
You now have a custom chair for under $20.
