How to Read a Plant Tag

Plant tags show you all the information you need to know for healthy growing and are the buying guides for your gardening. Learn how to read a plant tag in this Lowe’s video:

Names: Common and scientific names

Size: Maximum size of the full-grown plant

Hardiness: The USDA zones in which the plant will grow best

Sunlight: Requirements differ greatly from plant to plant:

• Full Sun: 6+ hours of direct sun per day
• Partial Sun: 3-6 hours of direct sun per day
• Shade: Less than 3 hours direct sun per day

Watering: Instructions vary from plant to plant – read carefully

Growth Rate: How the plant grows or the tree shape

Plants purchased at Lowe’s also have a “Grow Together” tag. Plants with the same number will grow well together.
