How to Propagate Fruits, Herbs, and Vegetables from Store-Bought Produce

Did you know that lettuce, celery, basil, green onions, onions and avocados will grow from themselves? Learn how to propagate fruits, herbs and vegetables from store-bought produce in this video by Better Homes and Gardens:



Lettuce: Remove leaves, leaving the stem core attached. Place the stem in a shallow dish with water. Harvest after 10-12 days.

Celery: Cut off stem of celery stalk. Place the stem in a shallow dish with water. Transplant into soil after 8 days.

Basil: Cut basil stems two inches from the highest leaves. Place stems in water, removing any lower leaves. Plant in soil after 15 days.

Green Onions: Cut green onions, leaving two inches of stem. Set onions in a jar of water. Harvest after 7 days.

Onions: Cut roots from bottom of onion. Add soil and onion roots to planter. Cover onion roots with one inch of soil. Water. Harvest after 90 days.

Avocado: Cut avocado flesh from seed. Wash and dry seed. Insert three toothpicks into seed. Submerge bottom of seed in water. Place in bright light and keep watered.
