How To Plant Daffodil and Tulip Bulbs

If you are a fan of daffodils and tulips in the springtime, you’ll need to do your planning and planting in the fall. Learn how to plant bulbs for a beautiful spring garden in this Lowe’s video:

Tulips and daffodils are the most popular spring flowers. Tulips come in a vivid array of reds, yellows, oranges, purples and whites. Daffodils (narcissus) come in yellow, white and peach and feature a cup in the middle surronded by frilly petals.

Follow these easy steps for planting bulbs:

1. Dig a hole. Bulbs don’t like wet feet, so make sure you plant them in well-drained soil. The depth of the hole is determined by the size of the bulb. Plant 2-3 times the width of the bulb. Sprinkle fertilizer in the bottom of the hole and turn it all in. This provides nutrition for the bulbs

2. Set the bulbs root side down and make sure they are not touching.

3. Always plant multiple bulbs to give a big show.

4. Cover with soil, water and mulch. Two to four inches of mulch will keep the soil a consistent temperature all winter.

When bulbs flower in spring, don’t cut back their foliage until it turns yellow.
