How to Plant an Island Flower Bed

A flower bed is an easy DIY project that adds to the curb appeal of your home. Learn how to plant an island flower bed in this video by The Home Depot:

For this project you will need a shovel, garden hose, chalk, garden soil and a variety of potted flowers.

1. Lay out the hose to get a general idea of the shape of your island. Trace it with chalk.

2. Dig out the sod and turn the dirt over.

3. Add garden soil and spread it over the island.

4. Stage your plants to get an idea where they will go. Experiment until you have an arrangement you like.

5. Add mulch over the island.

6. Plant your flowers. Remove each plant from its container and loosen the roots with your fingers before planting.
