How to Plant a Boxwood Hedge

Boxwood is a versatile green shrub that is ideal for hedges, borders and topiaries. Learn how to plant a boxwood hedge in this Lowe’s video:



Boxwood should be planted in a full sun to partially shaded area.

1. Mark the area with a line by putting a stake at either end. String twine and level.

2. Using one gallon boxwood, space plants on center from trunk to trunk evenly.

3. Mark spots with landscape spray paint.

4. Remove plants and dig hole.

5. Plant with root ball one inch above grade to allow for settling.

6. Plant one at a time to keep spacing right.

7. Remove stakes and twine.

8. Tamp soil to set root ball.

9. Shape plants as needed.

10. Add a soaker hose to make like easier.

11. Add mulch.

Plants will fill in around 3-5 years.
