Incorporating vintage into your dining room can be overwhelming, with fears that your room and your table will look like something out of granny’s attic. The key to pulling off this look is to start with classic sturdy pieces of furniture, so you want your big pieces to be clean, classic and able to stand the test and trends of time. The classic-shaped table featured in this video is traditional in style; the scrolled feet give it a timeless charm, and it comes with two leaves can extend up to 11 feet.
Dining room chairs come in all different shapes and sizes. Mismatched chairs give a fun stylized vibe to your table; you can choose a different chair for every single seat or two different sets of chairs (for example, the distressed spindle back chairs and the upholstered host chairs seen in this video). Always ask for a deal when buying more than one chair at a time. Also, make sure that all of the chairs are the same height.
When it comes to centerpieces, start with a tablecloth or runner to add color and texture. Add candles, plants and other elements. Mix different shapes and sizes of candlesticks together to create a dramatic table.
Set the table with vintage dishes and a mix of vintage and modern glasses for water and wine. Add chargers for a more formal look. Set each place with a dinner fork, salad fork, knife and spoon. Napkins can be vintage or modern. Add finishing touches such as an ice bucket.
No matter your style is, mixing vintage into your dining room successfully is all about balance. Starting with strong classic pieces and then adding in touches of vintage is a great way to personalize the experience of entertaining.
