How to Make Drapery Panels

If you enjoy sewing, it’s easy to create your own curtains using a favorite fabric. Learn how to make drapery panels in this video by Better Homes and Gardens:



1. Measure from floor to top of curtain rod.

2. Lay out fabric and trim selvage edges.

3. Measure finished length and add 7 inches.

4. Measure and cut 16 pieces for tabs. Cut facing pieces, fold tabs and pin. Sew tabs with 1/2-inch hem. Cut tabs, then turn and press tabs.

5. Press 2 inches on long drapery edges. Turn under 1 inch and press. Stitch along pressed edge.

6. Evenly space tabs across top edge and pin.

7. Press short ends of facing pieces and stitch. Press 1/2 inch on long edge of each facing piece. Pin facing piece into place.

8. Stich 1/2-inch seam across tabs and facing piece.

9. Fold tabs and facing piece to back of panel.

10. Press tabs down and pin.

11. Stitch entire width of panel.

12. Remeasure panel and check for proper curtain length. Pin at finished length. Press lower hem at pins.

13. Press and stitch 3 inches from bottom.
