How to Make Bench Cushions

Want more comfortable seating for a wooden bench? Learn how to make bench cushions in this Build.com video:

For this DIY project, you will need some 1/2-inch plywood, heavy duty fabric, some 3-inch foam, cutting scissors and a heavy duty stapler.

1. Get a piece of 1/2 inch plywood and cut it to the size you want your cushion.

2. Pick out a durable fabric. Cut the fabric to size. Make sure you leave enough room to wrap it completely around the cushion and staple on the other side

3. Get your padding together and cut it to size. It’s best to use as few pieces as possible to make the top more uniform.

4. Start by securing one long side of the fabric to the plywood. Fold the end of the fabric over to reduce fraying. Place staples in every 1-2 inches. Then wrap the fabric around and secure the other side. You can staple the foam to hold it in place while you wrap the fabric. Now secure both ends of the fabric. Make sure you pull the fabric tight as it will stretch over time (it helps to have an extra hand while doing this). Remember to take your time while stapling the fabric as it takes a little practice to get it just right.

Now you have a comfortable place to sit!
