How to Make Any Room Feel Light, Bright and Airy
When it comes to interior design, a common question people have is how to brighten up their space. Get tips and tricks for how to make any room feel light, bright and airy in this video by The Kinwoven Home:
1. Layer your lighting: There are many options for lighting such as floor lamps, desk lamps, side table lamps, and shelf lamps. Assess your room, see what you have space for and bring in all the lighting you possibly can without overdoing it. Try to bring in canned lighting or central lighting like a pendant light over a dining table. Invest in layering different types of lighting, and you will have a much brighter space regardless of your window situation and the way the room is facing the sun.
2. Paint your walls a lighter shade: Paint is the most inexpensive way to transform the look of your space. Even going from a tan to a light white will brighten up a space if there is not a lot of natural light coming in. If you don’t want to paint, use white window curtains that are light, flowing and translucent. Floor-to-ceiling drapes framing either side of the window (not covering the window) dresses up the wall without encroaching on the window space.
3. Lay down a lighter colored rug: If you have a dark rug or dark furniture and you don’t have a lot of light in the space, get a light colored rug, jute rug, or a “salt-and-pepper” colored rug.
4. Hang mirrors: Mirrors provide the greatest optical illusion as they make your space feel both bigger and brighter as they reflect light. You can use them to make a room feel more symmetrical by balancing out a weirdly placed window
5. Use lighter colored accessories: Decorating with light-colored throws and pillows, light-colored lamps, and light wood furniture will make the space feel lighter.
6. Decorate with plants: Plants bring in color and life into your space. Use a tall potted plant in a corner, hanging plants, or small potted plants on shelves.
