Be sure to get a wood plank that is long and deep enough to hold your kitchenware and decor.

1. Sand the wood plank using an electric sander. Start with thicker 60 grit sandpaper, then switch to 120 grit sandpaper to smooth out the fine smaller imperfections.

2. Wipe the dust off using a cloth.

3. Apply the stain. Put on gloves, first, then take a clean cloth, dip it into the stain and rub it onto the wood. Blot the ends of the plank to ensure the grooves are filled in. Let dry in between coats (refer to the instructions on your wood stain).

4. Spray on clear polyurethane to seal the stain.

5. Mount the shelf on the wall using shelf brackets.

6. Accessorize with kitchenware, greenery, photos, pictures or other decor.
