1. Determine where you will put your daybed. An unused corner of your outdoor space is ideal.

2. Build a frame out of 2×3 boards for a standard queen size bed, which is 60 inches by 80 inches. Allow for an extra inch on all sides for bedding. You will also need to place an extra 2×3 board down the long center to support the mattress. (Note: you can adjust the measurements to correspond with a twin or any other size mattress).

3. Cut 1×4 boards at 62 inches each for the mattress support slats, placing them 3 inches apart.

4. Use scraps from the 2×3’s to make the legs. You can stain them a dark color to make them virtually disappear.

5. Cut 1×6 boards to go on the sides of the bed.

6. Construct armrests from two vertical pieces of mahogany or other hardwood decking at 21 inches and two horizontal pieces at 31 inches.

7. Make a back rest in the same way as the sides.

8. Slip the mattress into a waterproof mattress bag with a zipper.

9. Add bedding and accessories.
