How to Make an Edison Bulb Chandelier

While an Edison bulb light fixture gives any space a vintage feel, hanging the bulbs on simple cords lends a modern flavor. Learn how to make an Edison bulb chandelier for your outdoor living are in this video by Robeson Design:



To protect the bulbs, cords and power strips from rain, you should have a covered outdoor space, such as a cabana, gazebo, or covered pergola or patio.

For this DIY project, you will need nine HEMMA cord sets from IKEA and nine Edison bulbs in twp different sizes (don’t use the LED bulbs that come with the HEMMA sets). You’ll also need ceiling hooks, zip ties, scissors, power strips, and an iron gate, a vintage piece of iron, or another iron piece to affix the light bulbs to.

1. Mount your iron piece on the inside of your covered outdoor area.

2. Plan the layout of your lights and make your height decisions.

3. Thread the cords through your iron piece to the desired length, placing the longest cord in the center. Attach the cords to the iron piece with the zip ties.

4. Put the Edison bulbs in the sockets.

5. Mount the power strips in an accessible location on the side of your covered structure.

6. Collect the opposite ends of the cords, pull them to one side and wrap them together. Bring the wrapped cords down the side to the power strips and plug them in.
