How to Make a Clothing Organizer for a Closet-less Kid’s Room

If your kid’s bedroom doesn’t have a closet, you can make a rack that looks amazing and is easy to build – and it’s a great family weekend project. Learn how to make a clothing organizer for a closet-less kid’s room in this DIY Network video:

1. Cut 3/4-inch plywood down to 43 inches to form the tray.

2. Cut 1 x 2 lumber for edging for the plywood. Cut two 44-1/2 inch pieces and two 24-inch short pieces.

3. Attach the 1 x 2 pieces to the plywood using wood glue and brad nails. This completes the tray.

4. Add stencils to the tray to stay organized by spray-painting over sandals, baskets, or other items.

5. Use 1 x 4 lumber for the four legs. Cut just one end of each leg at a 15-degree angle.

6. Drill holes at the top of the 1 x 4 cuts for the crossbar using a forstner bit. Add painters tape to avoid any tear out and keep the holes clean.

7. Sand the lumber pieces if needed.

8. Assemble the organizer. Position the legs around the tray. Pre-drill into the tray and secure the legs to the tray using two-inch screws.

9. Insert the crossbar. Add screws at the top to keep the legs together.

10. Paint the bottom half of the legs.

11. Add hooks to the legs for hanging hats, jewelry and other accessories.
