How to Install Pavers Over a Concrete Patio

Transform your tired concrete patio into something new with pavers. Learn how to install pavers over a concrete patio in this Lowe’s video:

Surface Prep

• Clean patio thoroughly before beginning this project.
• Place landscape fabric over cracked concrete to prevent weed growth.
• Check patio for level. Level low spots with concrete leveling compound. Level high spots with a grinder.

Creating the Patio

• Add a layer of paver base across the patio, leaving 8 inches empty around perimeter.
• Add layer of leveling sand on top of paver base.
• Place pavers beginning in one corner. Split pavers into pieces to fill in smaller areas.
• Mix mortar according to manufacturer’s instructions. Make small batches of mortar at a time.
• Spread a thin layer of mortar around the outside edge.
• Place pavers on mortar with factory side out.
• Spread polymeric sand all over with a push broom.
• Wet patio thoroughly and let it dry completely.
